What is Sports Testing?

Sports testing involves a range of tests used to assess your overall health, performance, and fitness levels, especially for athletes or those who engage in regular physical activities. 

These tests can help identify areas for improvement, monitor your body's response to exercise and detect potential health issues before they become serious. 


Why is Sports Testing Important?

Sports testing is beneficial because it helps to:

  •  Assess hormonal balance: Hormones play a key role in muscle growth, recovery, and overall energy levels.
  • Evaluate liver and kidney health: The liver and kidneys are responsible for detoxifying the body and maintaining fluid balance, which are essential for recovery and performance.
  • Monitor blood health: The full blood count can help determine your overall fitness levels and identify any underlying issues like anaemia that could affect your athletic performance.
  • Improve performance and recovery: Understanding your body’s function allows you to tailor your exercise, nutrition, and recovery plans.

Key Tests Included in Sports Testing

  • Estradiol Test: Estradiol is a form of estrogen, which can influence your energy, mood and muscle recovery
  • Testosterone Test: Testosterone is a key hormone that plays a crucial role in muscle development, energy levels and recovery
  • Liver Function Tests (LFTs): Liver function measures various levels of enzymes and proteins in your blood and reflects how well your liver is functioning. 
  • Kidney Function (U&AS) Profile: U&E (Urea and Electrolytes) are tests used to assess kidney function and balance of essential electrolytes in your blood.
  • Full Blood Count (FBC): A full blood count ,ensures different components of your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, haemoglobin and platelets. 

Important information to know before your Sports test

Depending on the specific test, fasting may be required beforehand. For some tests (like liver function or kidney function), you may also need to provide additional information about your diet, exercise routine, and any supplements or medications you are taking.
