Needle Exchange

Needle Exchange Programme

The needle exchange programme was introduced to reduce the spread of blood borne viruses and infections caused by sharing needles. The programme allows select community pharmacies to provide free injection equipment to those individuals accessing the service. 

Our staff are trained to provide advice on safer injecting practice, managing overdose, signposting to local drug and alcohol teams and access blood-borne virus testing.

Naloxone Kits

Naloxone can reverse the effects of an overdose and can be lifesaving. Needle exchange sits can provide Naloxone Kits for those at risk of overdose, or those who may be able to intervene an overdose. Training will be provided when receiving the supplies to ensure medication is given safely and effectively.
