A Dispensary Technicians is a senior member of the pharmacy team who supports a registered Pharmacist by assisting with the assembly and supply of medications and providing information about pharmaceutical products to patients and other healthcare professionals.
Your role can involve managing medicine supply in dispensaries and supervising other pharmacy staff, to ensure that prescriptions are processed in a safe and legal matter.
Your duties will include the safe and legal supply of prescription and over-the-counter medications to patients. You will be required to assemble and prepare prescriptions, order, and maintain supplies of medication within the pharmacy. Provide information to inform and educate patients and other healthcare professionals.
You will require basic computer skills as through the course of your working day you will gather, organise, and assess patient information, maintain electronic records, process requests for free NHS services and receive prescription orders.
You will need excellent communication skills as you will be expected to consult directly with other healthcare providers and patients.
You will also be expected to complete patient sales and transactions for over-the-counter medications and offer advice on free NHS services that patients are eligible to receive.
Dispensary Technicians are required to hold an NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services and you must be registered as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), with a valid GPhC number.
